5% of all QPT files belong to QGIS Composer Template. The files are using the common file format XML. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. Most of these files are 4 KB to 30 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Composer title, visible, <Composition resizeToContentsMarginLeft="0", guidesVisible="1" resizeToContentsMarginTop="0", snapping="0" showPages="1" and worldFileMap.

How to solve problems with QPT files

Associate the QPT file extension with the correct application.
