Opening a QRC File
The QRC file type is primarily associated with Qt SDK.
What is a QRC file?
- Main Use: Qt is a full-fledged developed framework containing all the necessary tools needed for creating various applications as well as their GUI for desktop, smartphone, and embedded platforms. QRC files are XML files used by programs that are generated using the Qt software suite. QRC files consist of resources used by applications (such as image files) that come bundled with the associated Qt-created application.
- Other Uses: QRC files are used by the page layout and designing software, QuarkXPress. QuarkXpress uses QRC files to store application component information needed for the proper functioning of the application such as color management and spell checking. It is possible to add components other than the ones that are already in the QRC files using the XNT files (XNT stands for extensions).
How to open a QRC file
You need a suitable software like Qt SDK to open a QRC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your QRC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a QRC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert QRC files:
- Qt SDK by Qt
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. QRC files are often referred to as Qt SDK data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- QuarkXPress (required application component file) by QuarkQuarkXPress is a desktop publishing software for creating and editing professional page layouts and publications and runs on macOS and Windows platforms. It provides solutions for page layouts, photo editing, graphics and illustrations, web design, and mobile application creation. QRC file stores required application functionality components like - color management, spell checking, and exporting components. This file format is classified as Data. QRC format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the QRC files:
The QRC file ending includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all QRC files start with the bytes 98 25 B0 AC E3 02 83 68 E8 FC 6C crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 3 KB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. These files are attributed to qmts, feat, black, remix, world, live, reason, album, paint, senna, smile, void and music.
- 20% of all QRC files belong to Qt Resource Collection. The files are using the common file format XML. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are 84 bytes to 1 KB in size, with a median of 200 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <RCC>, qresource prefix, file, </qresource> and </RCC>. The following filename is common: Icons.qrc or Resources.qrc. Such QRC files store data about image and resource.
All the rest of the QRC files (25%) have different formats, frequently e.g. Qt Resource Collection, ZRes and QRC. Files like these are sometimes linked to bittersweet, songbook, higuchi, russian, music, night, tower, dead, mind, mygo, some or time. If you want to find out what your QRC file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for QRC File Extension
a qrc resource collection file is a special file format by Qt and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with QRC files
- Associate the QRC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open resource collection files. Because only the current version supports the latest QRC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Qt manufacturer website after an available Qt SDK update.
- To make sure that your QRC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .QRC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
