What is a QRT file?

QRT files mostly belong to Windows Explorer / RouteConverter. The QRT extension is used for files that serve different purposes depending on their origin.

If the file is a Windows executable, it is Themida-protected and linked with tools like LordPE. In this case the file is part of a secured software package and is meant to run as a program on your Windows system. You should only run it if you trust its source.

How to open QRT files

You need a suitable software like Windows Explorer / RouteConverter to open a QRT file. QuickRoute
QuickRoute is a computer program for Windows that allows you to display a route from a GPS device, such as a GPS-clock, on an orienteering map saved as an image file.

QRT file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the QRT files looks like this:

The QRT file extension is rarely used and includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:

50% of all QRT files start with the magic bytes FS, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 1 MB. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. The keywords !This program cannot be run in DOS mode are typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to setup, portraitureplugin, realgrainplugin, photoshop, adobe and crack.
10% of all QRT files are based on the well-known .NET file format. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. QRT files are between 560 KB and 5 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as $QuickRoute.BusinessEntities.Document, RQuickRoute.BusinessEntities, Version=2.4.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, projectionOrigin, propertie, sessions and settings.

All other QRT files (40%) have no consistent format, the following 6 formats exist: QRT Ray Tracer scene description, QR-Tekst document, Graphic and Quest. Tagged as plantilla or template.
