Opening RECORD Files
The RECORD file type is primarily associated with Xcode.
What is a RECORD file?
RECORD files mostly belong to Xcode. RECORD files can use different internal formats to hold structured data.
This file type may be stored as a binary plist, meaning it contains a serialized Property List for storing system settings or configuration data on Apple systems. To open such files, you need a tool that can read binary plist files, for example, the Property List Editor in Xcode.
Alternatively, RECORD files may also use the JSON format. In this case the file acts as a log that records touch operations and user interface events. This format is used by testing tools like MonkeyRunner, and you can view these records with a text editor or any JSON viewer.
File content is defined by its internal format. Binary plist files may need conversion for readability. JSON based records are human-readable when properly formatted. FilExt.com note: For more technical details, check out the Apple documentation and the MonkeyRunner documentation.

How to open a RECORD file
You need a suitable software like Xcode to open a RECORD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RECORD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RECORD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert RECORD files:
- Xcode
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. RECORD files are often referred to as Xcode data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- macOS, iOS, MonkeyRunnerA *.RECORD file can refer to different file formats depending on the context. It is most commonly associated with Apple's binary property list (plist) format, often used for storing application settings and data. These files are generally created and used by Apple software. Less frequently, *.RECORD can also refer to log files containing touch operation records, primarily used in Android app testing with tools like MonkeyRunner. These record user interface events for analysis and debugging. This file format is classified as Data file.

How to solve problems with RECORD files
- Associate the RECORD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest RECORD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Xcode update.
- To make sure that your RECORD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
