What is an RVL file?

RVL files mostly belong to RVLBackup. RVL files are used in different systems and are not a single format. They can be one of the following:

RemoteView log file: This file records PC events and system activity. It works as a PC activity log file and is produced by tools such as RVLBackup.

Muvee Reveal project file: This version is XML based. It stores project settings and editing data for video projects.

RealView Logic analyzer file: This file holds capture data for signal testing, sometimes used with Logitech Harmony Remote configurations. More details appear on the ARM website.

How do you open RVL files?

You need a suitable software like RVLBackup to open an RVL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RVL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RVL file directly in the browser:. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the RVL files:

The RVL file extension is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all RVL files start with the bytes C8 00 00 00 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. RVL files can be up to 60 KB in size, but are often around 930 bytes - 20 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. WAREHOUSE-01_korra_2020-06-01.rvl or LOLI-PC_Loli_2020-06-01.rvl is a typical file name. These files are attributed to warehouse, korra, loli, admin, owner and user.
• 9% of all RVL files are Muvee project files, which are based on the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. RVL files can be up to 12 MB in size, but are often around 8 KB - 1 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, name, muveeProject, video, file, index, image and Users. These files are often associated with movie and project.
