What is a SITE file?

SITE files mostly belong to Salesforce Experience Cloud. SITE files serve different roles based on the system that creates them.
For many users, these files act as a Salesforce Experience Cloud template that uses a JSON structure to define page layouts and design elements. They are used by the Salesforce Community Cloud and managed with tools like Experience Builder.
Other SITE files are site-wide configuration files. They store settings that tell software how to run.

How to open a SITE file

You need a suitable software like Salesforce Experience Cloud to open a SITE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. A typical file size is 580 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. # Things you might want to change, # options(editor="notepad"), # options(help_type="text"), # options(pager="internal"), # options(papersize="a4"), # set the default help type and options(help_type="html".
