Opening an SLIP File
The SLIP file type is primarily associated with Embarcadero License Manager.
What is an SLIP file?
In some cases, SLIP files are also linked to 3D Systems. Here, the file may function as a stereolithography file for 3D printing data or even serve as a file to track saved game progress. When a SLIP file comes from 3D Systems, you should use their designated tools for viewing or editing. For more details on such implementations, visit the 3D Systems webpage.
Use these guidelines when dealing with SLIP files:
How to open an SLIP file
You need a suitable software like Embarcadero License Manager to open an SLIP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SLIP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SLIP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SLIP files:
- Embarcadero License Manager
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SLIP files are often referred to as Embarcadero License Manager settings because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- CodeGear (License File) by Embarcadero Technologies, Inc.CodeGear is a wholly-owned division of Embarcadero Technologies, and develops software development tools such as the Delphi IDE and programming language and the database server InterBase. Originally a division of Borland Software Corporation, it was launched on 14 November 2006. If a CodeGear product needs to be embedded into a software product (e.g., InterBase perhaps) Value Added Reseller (VAR) agreements can be entered into, so that the developer can use slip files for the CodeGear product as part of their own software product installation. For this reason you may see this file type associated with non-CodeGear products. Related links: Wikipedia CodeGear Page
SLIP format details:
To view or edit SLIP files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the SLIP files:
The SLIP file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a defined SLIP format. The following file formats are most commonly found in SLIP files:
- 70% of all SLIP files have the same signature 00 00. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 1 KB to 14 KB in size, with a median of 3 KB. The file type is relatively new. Such files sometimes refer to concurrent, named, server, radstudioxe, radstudio and arch.
- 6% of all SLIP files use the same file format, which have the signature ÏâxL. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 1 KB. The file name dent.slip is typical for these files.
All other SLIP files (24%) have no consistent format. Just click the "Choose your .slip file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your SLIP file is.
Technical Data for SLIP File Extension
an slip license file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SLIP files
- Associate the SLIP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open license files. Because only the current version supports the latest SLIP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Embarcadero License Manager update.
- To make sure that your SLIP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
