All about SOC Files
The SOC file type is primarily associated with Multiple applications.
What is a SOC file?
For example, some SOC files function as an Android data cache that stores temporary operating data. In other cases, the file contains an XML-based color palette used by applications like OpenOffice or LibreOffice.
A different set of SOC files is used as project class files within industrial systems like CIMPLICITY for human-machine interfaces (GE). Similarly, you may find SOC files that list voting or preference information, known as social choice or preference data files, managed by systems such as PrefLib (PrefLib Tools).
Another usage appears in media contexts where the file represents a set of choices in streaming services, as seen with data files related to Amazon Instant Video or Netflix (Amazon).
- Android Data Cache: Keeps temporary data for system operations.
- Color Palette: Uses XML to store color settings in office software.
- CIMPLICITY Project Class: Stores information for industrial control projects.
- Social Choice Data: Contains data for preference-based selections.
- Set of Choices: Holds lists used in streaming service interfaces.
FilExt.com tip: The file’s internal format depends on the application that created it. To view its content, use the appropriate host program or try a text editor if the data appears in XML.
How to open a SOC file
You need a suitable software like Multiple applications to open a SOC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SOC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SOC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SOC files:
- Multiple applications
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SOC files are often referred to as Multiple applications data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

SOC file format:
To find out what program is needed to open SOC files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SOC files looks like this:
SOC is not a common file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 20% of all SOC files start with the magic bytes 08 04 12, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 7 KB in size and range from 300 bytes to 37 KB. An example of a file name is cache_99691539_1.soc.
- 10% of all SOC files are using the well-known XML file format to store the data. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The file size is in the range of 2 KB to 13 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <office:color-table xmlns:office="http://openoffice.org/2000/office" xmlns:style="http://openoffice.org/2000/style" xmlns:text="http://openoffice.org/2000/text" and <ooo:color-table xmlns:office="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:office:1.0" xmlns:draw="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:drawing:1.0" xmlns:xlink="http.
All other SOC files (70%) have different formats, the following 3 formats can be found: CIMPLICITY. These files are often connected to konica, dbuserc or notes. You can get all the details of your SOC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .soc file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with SOC files
- Associate the SOC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SOC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Multiple applications update.
- To make sure that your SOC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SOC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
