STATS file extension format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the STATS files:
The STATS extension is quite commonly used. The file itself is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in STATS files are:
- 20% of all STATS files use the same file format, which have the signature # T. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The average file size is 9 KB with most files being between 6 KB and 11 KB in size. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: # Title Segmentation Statistics, # generating_program mri_segstats, cmdline mri_segstats, mgz --sum stats, --seg mri/aseg.mgz, # cvs_version $Id: mri_segstats.c,v 1.121 2016/05/31 17:27:11 greve Exp $, cvs_version 7 and FreeSurfer. Examples of file names are aseg.stats or lh.aparc.stats. These files can be linked to aparc, wmparc, dktatlas and posta.
- 15% of all STATS files have the same signature 80 04 95. These files are not pure binary files and are therefore readable and interpretable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 260 bytes to 960 bytes. The following keywords are characteristic: by_module, by_msg, convention, error, fatal, info, refactor, statement, warning, function and method.
All other STATS files (65%) have no consistent format, often e.g. GZIP, moduleq, systemstats, BINd, Total, STATS and SNP. These files sometimes refer to xxxxxx, chess, free, coalitions, fasta or video. Just click the "Choose your .stats file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your STATS file is.
