Opening a SYN File
The SYN file type is primarily associated with Synchro.
What is a SYN file?
- Traffic Simulation: These files can hold traffic models and simulation data. They are used in traffic studies where the data drives simulation tools. Learn more at Cubic Intelligent Systems.
- Mapping Data: Some SYN files are actually compressed KML files. They work with Google Earth data and related mapping applications. More details are available at Google KML.
- Synthesizer Presets: In other cases, a SYN file holds a synthesizer preset. This type of file stores settings for sound synthesis and is used with software like SynthEdit. Visit SynthEdit for reference.
- Signal Backup: There are SYN files that keep a backup of status data for the Signal messaging app. See Signal for additional info.
- Synology Configuration: Some files manage Synology NAS configuration and drive synchronization. They store operational data which supports Synology tools. More information can be found at Synology.
FilExt.com notes: This file is a data file that must be opened with its correct, associated application. A quick check with a basic text or hex editor may reveal hints of its origin. Always keep a backup before making changes.
How to open SYN files
You need a suitable software like Synchro to open a SYN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SYN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SYN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SYN files:
- Synchro
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SYN files are often referred to as Synchro data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

SYN format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the SYN files:
The SYN file extension is rather rarely used and includes very many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all SYN files start with the magic bytes 0F 00 25 25 53 79 6E 63 68 72 6F 31, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 80 KB with most files being between 11 KB and 220 KB in size. The file type is very recent. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as %%Synchro11.0%%, network, %%Synchro10.1%% and Salted__. These files can be linked to lexington, signal, build and peak.
- 10% of all SYN files use the ZIP format, the SYN file contains a number of compressed files. 2 to 16 compressed files are common. Common included file names are Notes.txt. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The files are often between 3 KB and 47 KB in size.
All other SYN files (70%) have different formats, often e.g. FL Studio SimSynth Preset, ready, Synchro, FNYS and ZEUSSYN. Tagged as status, action, messages, special, delete, folder or check. If you want to find out what your SYN file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for SYN File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: GraphicsConverter.exe
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\XnView\xnview.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Dragon UnPACKer 5\drgunpack5.exe
a syn data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SYN files
- Associate the SYN file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SYN file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Synchro update.
- To make sure that your SYN file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SYN file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
