What is a TFP file?

TFP files mostly belong to SimHub. A TFP file is not a one‐size‐fits‐all type but is used by different systems for specialized tasks.
Often the file holds configuration data. For instance, some of TFP files use a JSON structure to save a SimHub configuration – a file that also works as an Arduino project configuration for Teensyduino.
Other TFP files work as firmware upgrade packages.

How do you open TFP files?

You need a suitable software like SimHub to open a TFP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TFP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TFP file directly in the browser:. TFP file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. TFP is rarely used as a file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 30% of all TFP files store the data in the JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are 43 KB to 58 KB in size, with a median of 58 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The following keywords are characteristic: "Condition": "[, "Condition": "[TM1638_ENABLEDMODULES]>0", "Name": "INCLUDE_TM1638", "Name": "INCLUDE_WS2801" and "Type": "autodefine". Examples of file names are F13DRAP.tfp or ProMicro_e36cluster.tfp. These files can be linked to drap, cluster, micro and wheel.
• 7% of all TFP files start with the bytes 2A 00 00 08 00, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 8 MB in size and range from 3 MB to 12 MB. Such files are related to beta.

All other TFP files (63%) have no consistent format, often e.g. XML and Java. Files like these are sometimes linked to sketch, order, simhub, firmware, beta, export, oracle or dash.
