You need a suitable software like ColorOS to open a THEME file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your THEME file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a THEME file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the THEME files:
THEME is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in THEME files:
- 45% of all THEME files use ZIP compression, multiple files are compressed and combined into one THEME file. A THEME file contains 8 to 60 files, the average being 20. - 40% of all THEME files are associated with Windows Desktop Theme files, which internally utilize the well-known config format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 3 KB. The files contain the following words: ; Copyright, DisplayName, [Theme], Microsoft Corp, Windows, CLSID, ; Computer - SHIDI_SERVER, AERO, SetLogonBackground=0 and SystemRoot. A common filename is Custom.theme or aero.theme. These files are often associated with dark.

How to solve problems with THEME files
- Associate the THEME file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open theme archives. Because only the current version supports the latest THEME file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the OPPO manufacturer website after an available ColorOS update.
- To make sure that your THEME file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
