What is a TPM file?

TPM files mostly belong to BitLocker by Microsoft. A TPM file is an XML-encoded backup of owner authorization information used by the Trusted Platform Module on a computer. Windows operating system implements Trusted Platform Module technology for hardware-based (chip) security functions. Its BitLocker drive encryption software can read such a TPM file. Another type of TPM file contains model transformation parameters used by Rational Software Architect Designer Unified Modeling Language modeling and development environment. TPM is also the filename extension of a macro used by TextPad text editor. CrazyTalk modeling and animation software saves a model in a TPM file.

How to open TPM files

You need a suitable software like BitLocker to open a TPM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TPM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TPM file directly in the browser:. TPM file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. TPM is rarely used as a file extension and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all TPM files store the data in the EXE file format. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). Files like these are sometimes connected to alarm and auto.
