Opening TPM Files
The TPM file type is primarily associated with BitLocker.
What is a TPM file?
How to open TPM files
You need a suitable software like BitLocker to open a TPM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TPM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TPM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert TPM files:
- BitLocker by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. TPM files are often referred to as BitLocker miscs because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- CrazyTalk (model) by ReallusionCrazyTalk is a 3D head/burst modeling and animation software with lip-sync support. It saves a model as a TPM file. This file format is classified as CAD.
- Rational Software Architect Designer (model transformation parameters) by IBMRational Software Architect Designer is a UML modeling and development environment. It uses a TPM file to save model transformation parameters. This file format is classified as Misc.

TPM file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the TPM files comes to the following conclusion:
TPM is rarely used as a file extension and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all TPM files store the data in the EXE file format. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 46 KB to 240 KB in size, with a median of 86 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as !This program cannot be run in DOS mode. A usual file name is xp3dec.tpm or wuvorbis.tpm.
- 15% of all TPM files are based on the popular MP4 file format. MP4 is a multimedia container format used to store video and audio and allows streaming over the Internet. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 5 MB with most files being between 1 MB and 36 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. $ftypisom, \tkhd, freeireader/media-server, isommp42avc1dashiso5, lmvhd, moov and utrak. Files like these are sometimes connected to alarm and auto.
All other TPM files (65%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. XML and ZIP. These files sometimes refer to contract, parser, forms, sale, model or mtool. You can get all the details of your TPM file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .tpm file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for TPM File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Reallusion\CrazyTalk\Editor\Fitting.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Motorola\PST\UT_NVM.exe
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\TurboPrep\tp32cp.exe
a tpm owner password is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with TPM files
- Associate the TPM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open owner passwords. Because only the current version supports the latest TPM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available BitLocker update.
- To make sure that your TPM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .TPM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
