Opening UPR Files
The UPR file type is primarily associated with UniOP.
What is a UPR file?
The UPR file is an internal project file used by the UniOP design software. It is known as the UniOP Design Project File and holds project information that drives the design workflow.
When you open a UPR file, you are accessing a file that stores data related to your design project. It may include layout details, configuration settings, and elements that are specific to a UniOP project. Typical usage involves:
- Storing design configurations that guide the look and structure of your project.
- Maintaining project elements such as settings and design parameters.
- Facilitating project management within the UniOP design environment.
FilExt.com note: This file is not usually recognized by other standard software tools. Therefore, to view or edit a UPR file, you usually need the UniOP design application installed on your computer.
How can I open a UPR file?
You need a suitable software like UniOP to open a UPR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UPR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UPR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

UPR format details:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the UPR files:
The UPR file extension is rarely used and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all UPR files belong to UniOP Project. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 11 KB to 4 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. UniOP Project File.
- 8% of all UPR files store the data in the config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The average file size is 47 bytes with most files being between 47 bytes and 42 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. HEADER END and HEADER START. The file name User.upr is characteristic of these files.
All other UPR files (67%) have no consistent format, such as RESZLIB. Files like these are sometimes linked to language, textures or english. If you want to find out which format your UPR file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .upr file to analyze".

How to solve problems with UPR files
- Associate the UPR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest UPR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available UniOP update.
- To make sure that your UPR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
