How to open USS files

You need a suitable software like WinUAE to open a USS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the USS files is as follows:

USS is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

40% of all USS files are UAE Saved State files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 230 KB to 3 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ASF, CPU, CYCS and Description!. The file name Saved State 1.uss or Saved State 3.uss is characteristic of these files.

How to solve problems with USS files

Associate the USS file extension with the correct application.
