What is a VDA file?

VDA files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. VDA is the filename extension of files containing surface models saved in VDA-FS (short for Verband der Automobilindustrie – Flächenschnittstelle) CAD data interchange file format. The VDA-FS file format is mainly used to transfer surface models and geometry across computer-aided design programs such as AutoCAD. VDA CAD data interchange format has been superseded by STEP file format due to the latter's wide adoption and additional features. VDA is also one of the filename extensions associated with the TARGA file format developed by Truevision (now Avid). Such VDA files were originally used to store files containing uncompressed or Run-length encoded images/graphics generated by TARGA video display adapters. Image processing software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Canvas, and XnView support VDA image file format.

How to open VDA files

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a VDA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VDA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VDA file directly in the browser:.
