All about VEC Files

The VEC file type is primarily associated with CX-Designer.

VECFile Extension VEC

What is a VEC file?

VEC files mostly belong to CX-Designer by OMRON. VEC filename extension is associated with vector formats used by various programs. CX-Designer, a human-interface software for programmable terminals produced by OMRON, uses shapes stored as vector images in VEC binary files. Geospatial image processing programs such as IDRISI Andes (now TerrSet) and Desktop GIS use IDRISI vector (VEC) graphics format to saves drawings and shapes used to visualize maps. Such maps are encoded as binary or ASCII text files. Orbiter space flight simulation software saves vector maps of space objects such as stars and planets in text-based VEC files. The native vector graphics format of DaVis laser imaging software uses VEC filename extension. ENVI geospatial image analysis program uses templates saved in VEC files. EnSight scientific data visualization and simulation software also uses a vector data format which stores X, Y, and Z coordinates in VEC files.

How do you open VEC files?

You need a suitable software like CX-Designer to open a VEC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VEC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VEC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VEC files:

  1. CX-Designer by OMRON
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VEC files are often referred to as CX-Designer vector images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. Analytics (vector layer) by Adobe
Analytics is a predictive data analysis and visualization software optimized for marketing applications. Its Data Workbench component uses text-based vector layers saved in VEC files. These layers reference the vector files used in the program. This file format is classified as Page Layout. Related links: Define vector layers referencing vector files
  3. DaVis (image) by LaVision GmbH
DaVis (short for Data Acquisition and Visualization Software) is a laser imaging software for surface, high-speed, and non-reactive applications. It uses a proprietary VEC format to store vector images. This file format is classified as Vector Image.
  4. EnSight (vector data) by Ansys
EnSight is a 3D simulation and data visualization software used in a wide range of engineering disciplines. It saves vector data such as X, Y, Z coordinates in VEC files. This file format is classified as Data.
  5. ENVI (template) by L3HARRIS
ENVI is a geospatial image processing and analysis program. It provides a range of tools for multispectral, hyperspectral, and thermal geospatial image processing. Templates of vectors used by ENVI are saved in VEC files. This file format is classified as GIS.
  6. FastText (aggregated word vectors) by Facebook Open Source
FastText is an open source library used for efficient text classification and representation learning. It features a collection of pre-trained models including English word vectors and multi-lingual (up to 157 languages) word vectors. Aggregated word vectors used by FastText are stored in VEC files. This file format is classified as Data.
  7. OpenCV (cascade data) by Intel
OpenCV (Open Source Computer Library) is a library of functions for implementing real-time computer vision. Some cascade data used by OpenCV are saved in VEC files. This file format is classified as Data.
  8. Orbiter (vector objects) by Martin Schweiger
Orbiter is a realistic space flight simulation software. It can emulate the launching of space ships from the Kennedy Space Center and have them rendezvous with the International Space Station. Vector objects such as planets in Orbiter simulations are saved in VEC files. This file format is classified as Data.
  9. Pictures by PC (drawing) by Schott Systeme
Pictures by PC is a discontinued computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing program. Its typical use cases included conceptual and mechanical design, business graphics, technical documentation, molding/milling, engraving, and turning. Pictures by PC saved vector and object structure information used to represent 2D or 3D models in VEC files. This file format is classified as CAD.
  10. TerrSet (shapes and drawings) by Clark Labs
TerrSet is a geospatial data modeling, device monitoring, and image processing/analysis software for Windows. It bundles IDRISI GIS and image processing tools which can create, display, and edit vector-based shapes and drawings used to generate maps saved in IDRISI's vector (VEC) file format. This file format is classified as GIS. Related links: Desktop Gis
  11. Vectre (image) by Daylon
Vectre is an obsolete vector graphics editor for creating and editing Bezier paths, shapefiles, and 3D objects. Vector images created with Vectre were stored in VEC files. This file format is classified as Vector Image.

VEC file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the VEC files comes to the following conclusion:

The VEC file extension is quite widespread and does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in VEC files:

All other VEC files (88%) have no uniform format, such as Vectrex game ROM, XML, Adobe, version, VEC, TITLE, BMA, preview and cgensim. They are often associated with fish, positives, model, embedding, library, vectors, media or logo. You can get all the details of your VEC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .vec file to analyze" above.

a vec vector shape is a special file format by OMRON and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with VEC files

  • Associate the VEC file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open vector shapes. Because only the current version supports the latest VEC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the OMRON manufacturer website after an available CX-Designer update.
  • To make sure that your VEC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .VEC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
