What is a VFB file

VFB files mostly belong to FontForge. VFB files are used for specific tasks.
For one purpose, they act as a vector font binary file. They store data such as scalable glyph outlines and font metadata. Software like FontForge and FontLab use this format to manage font databases.
Another purpose is to hold free/busy calendar data. This type of file contains scheduling information that Microsoft Outlook uses to show calendar availability. You can view these files with Outlook.

How to open VFB files

You need a suitable software like FontForge to open a VFB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To view or edit VFB files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The VFB file extension is rarely used and is primarily used by a single program. The file formats most commonly found in VFB files are:

• 75% of all VFB files are associated with FontLab Font. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 110 KB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as WLF10. The file name EldritchHorrorIconFont_V2_1.vfb or Lobster 1.4 merged and optimized.vfb is characteristic of these files. • 15% of all VFB files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "BEGIN:V" at the beginning. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. BEGIN:VFREEBUSY, ORGANIZER, BEGIN:VCALENDAR, METHOD:PUBLISH, VERSION:2.0, DTSTAMP, DTSTART, mailto, 0 MIMEDIR, PRODID:-//Microsoft Corporation//Outlook and PRODID:-//The Horde Project//Kronolith H5 (4.2.27)//EN.
