What is a VIX file?
How to open VIX files
You need a suitable software like Sage ACCPAC to open a VIX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VIX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VIX file directly in the browser:. Programs that open and convert VIX files:
- Sage ACCPAC
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VIX files are often referred to as Sage ACCPAC data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ACUCOBOL-GT (Index File) by Acucorp, Inc.Acucorp offers an open systems COBOL, ACUCOBOL-GT, that lets you write a program once, and run it on virtually any operating system platform without recompiling. This is achieved using a pseudocode system. Rather than producing native code for a single platform, our compiler produces a small, independent object that can be placed on any open-systems machine. At runtime, the object is executed by a native runtime executable. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 10 12 14 18 00 04 00 00 00.

VIX file format:
To view or edit VIX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the VIX files:
VIX is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in VIX files:
- 55% of all VIX files are associated with Acu4GL/AcuCOBOL Index. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 510 bytes to 2 MB in size, with a median of 22 KB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Files like these have the following tags: vpdat and vpmas.
- 15% of all VIX files belong to ViX images catalog. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 55 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ViX. A common filename is _CATALOG.VIX. Such files sometimes refer to catalog.
The remaining 30% of all VIX files are files with no common format, the following 4 formats can be found: Vixen 2 Timed sequence. Sometimes used for data, proximity, sample or color. If you want to find out which format your VIX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .vix file to analyze".
