Opening a WIF File
The WIF file type is primarily associated with iWeaveIt.
What is a WIF file?
Weaving Information File:
These files store weaving patterns and design data created by the iWeaveIt tool. They hold instructions and layout details used in textile design. Designers and hobbyists use them to plan and record weave patterns.
WordPerfect 5.1 Document:
Some WIF files contain a legacy WordPerfect 5.1 document from WordPerfect for DOS. In this case, the file may also be used as a wallet import format for SMemo. For further details, visit Corel.
Usage Notes:
How to open WIF files
You need a suitable software like iWeaveIt to open a WIF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WIF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WIF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

WIF file format details:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the WIF files is as follows:
WIF is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 55% of all WIF files are Weaving Interchange Format files, which are based on the config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. The contents of these files are partially readable with a text editor. The files are often between 1 KB and 8 KB in size. The files contain the following words: [WIF], [CONTENTS], Version=1.1, COLOR PALETTE=true, Developers=wif-mhsoft-com, TEXT=true, WARP=true, WEAVING=true, Date=April 20, 1997, Source Program=Fiberworks PCW, WEFT=true, Source Version=4.2 and handweaving. Some examples of file names are 4-shaft_twill_heart_draft.wif. Files like these have the following tags: twill, shaft, draft and heart, and often contain personal information.
- 15% of all WIF files have the same signature D2 04 00 00 01 00 00 00 FD FF FF FF 08. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 400 KB with most files being between 180 KB and 400 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: cbf.txt. An example of a file name is cbf.wif.
The remaining 30% of all WIF files are files with no common format, the following 3 formats can be found: config. The category is blocks. If you want to find out what your WIF file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
