Opening WMZ Files
The WMZ file type is primarily associated with Media Player.
What is a WMZ file?
How to open a WMZ file
You need a suitable software like Media Player to open a WMZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WMZ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WMZ file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert WMZ files:
- Media Player by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. WMZ files are often referred to as Media Player settings because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Office (compressed image) by MicrosoftOffice is an office productivity software suite featuring programs used for spreadsheet/word processing, presentation, and database management. Older versions of Office programs such as the 2010 edition can save vector images as Gzip-compressed Windows Metafiles (WMZ) when sending them as email attachments. This file format is classified as Vector Image.
WMZ file format:
To view or edit WMZ files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the WMZ files is as follows:
The WMZ file extension is quite widespread and uses a uniform format that many programs support. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 99% of all WMZ files are Compressed graphic files, which are based on the GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 1 KB to 92 KB in size. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. A usual file name is image001.wmz or image002.wmz. These files are attributed to jpeg.
- 1% of all WMZ files use the ZIP algorithm, that is, a WMZ file includes multiple compressed files. Most often they are 41 to 200 compressed files. File names are e.g. eq_down.bmp, eq_hover.bmp and eq_up.bmp. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are 52 KB to 3 MB in size, with a median of 70 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. a``Pa, cd`i and netgen.wmsSDZ. The file name Revert.wmz is typical for these files.

- Update your software that should actually open skins. Because only the current version supports the latest WMZ file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Media Player update.
- To make sure that your WMZ file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .WMZ file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
