What is a WORKFLOW file?

WORKFLOW files mostly belong to vRealize Orchestrator. Overview: WORKFLOW files are used to store automation and process definitions. They come in two forms. One version is a ZIP archive that packages elements for VMware vRealize Orchestrator. This file type holds detailed steps and scripts that the orchestration engine uses to automate IT tasks and infrastructure management.
The other version is based on an XML format. It defines business processes for platforms like Salesforce Workflow. This XML structure outlines the order of operations and conditions needed to drive business process flows.

ZIP-based workflows: Used by VMware vRealize Orchestrator to bundle scripts and configuration data.

XML-based workflows: Contain business process definitions that dictate how tasks are executed in systems like Salesforce.

How to open a WORKFLOW file

You need a suitable software like vRealize Orchestrator to open a WORKFLOW file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WORKFLOW file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. WORKFLOW file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening.
