Opening a WPX File
The WPX file type is primarily associated with EKO4U.
What is a WPX file?
WPX files serve several specialized purposes. The most common use is as a window construction order file. These files use UTF-8 encoding to store instructions that determine the arrangement and order of interface windows. They are managed by software from EKO4U and are essential for organizing window layouts in that environment.
Other uses include:
- Windowmaker Project File: Used by WinProlog to record window positions and settings. Also known as the "Window Maker Position File," these files help manage project layouts. More details can be viewed at LPA.
- Weather Prediction XML File: Contains XML data for weather forecasts. This version is used by Weather Producer for its weather prediction processes.
- Template Files: In some cases, the WPX extension is applied to Corel WordPerfect templates, connected with companies like WavePad.
This file is a data file that stores configuration and project information. Its content is structured, so a simple text editor can display the underlying XML or UTF-8 data, though native software will render the layout or forecast information correctly.
Key details sourced by FilExt.com:
- Uses plain text encoding (UTF-8).
- May contain XML-based instructions.
- Functionality depends on the originating application and company.
FilExt.com tip: Handle these files with care; always use the software that created them or a compatible text editor to inspect their contents.
How do you open WPX files?
You need a suitable software like EKO4U to open a WPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

WPX file format:
To view or edit WPX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the WPX files is as follows:
The WPX file extension is not found very often and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all WPX files use the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 56 KB in size and range from 13 KB to 220 KB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Client, Numero, Date, Notes, Reference, EKO4U przez, Plik WPX utworzony w EKO4U przez konto, Etat=100, detchassis=1, Adresse=1, Tarif and Webshop=1.
- 15% of all WPX files are based on the zip format, so several files are combined and compressed into one WPX file. The number of files included is on average 3 and ranges from 2 to 11. File names are e.g. WppDoc.db and WppDoc.ini. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. A typical file size is 86 KB. The keywords WppDoc.db are typical for these files. Such WPX files store data about person-related data.
All other WPX files (30%) have no consistent format, often e.g. XML, WTPX and Numero. Often described as summer, autumn or packslip. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your WPX file!

How to solve problems with WPX files
- Associate the WPX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest WPX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available EKO4U update.
- To make sure that your WPX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
