What is a WRI file?

WRI files mostly belong to WordPad by Microsoft. WRI is the filename extension of a text document used to distribute README files containing an application's documentation. This file's content is written in Rich Text Format. For this reason, it can be read and edited with a word processor or text editor such as WordPad or Notepad. Another type of WRI file is a document created by the discontinued Write word processor for Windows. Write has been replaced by WordPad which doesn't support WRI format.

How to open a WRI file

You need a suitable software like WordPad to open a WRI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The WRI file extension is quite widespread and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in WRI files:

• 45% of all WRI files are associated with Windows Write Document. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 1 KB to 23 KB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago. A common filename is Readme.wri. Files like these are sometimes connected to letter, cmtr, agreement, anuncio, byzance, filharm, silbern, bewerb, manual, club, kino, moni and rlev.
• 15% of all WRI files have the same signature SOCIETE : 230 . These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. A typical file size is 700 bytes. The following keywords are characteristic: SOCIETE, 230   AGENCE, 354   LISTE DE DEBLOCAGES   DATE and AGENCE :354. The following filename is common: NOTIF_DEBL_AGC_062.wri or NOTIF_DEBL_AGC_354.wri. Such files are related to notif, debl, journal and agence.

The remaining 40% of all WRI files are files with no common format, often, for example, RTF, DOC, WordPerfect, UTF-8, XML, ERSTE, Nome, Mod, Pagamenti and Relacion.
