What is a WTP file

WTP files mostly belong to Web Builder. A WTP file is not a single file type but a label used by various applications to store project or data information. The most common use is as a WebBuilder project file for web design. This file type is used to preserve website layouts and related settings by the Web Builder tool (Xara).

Texture Files: Some WTP files are actually texture files. They are used in game development, such as in NieR:Automata and by Relic Entertainment using the Relic Chunky File Format.

Watchlist Settings: Other instances store watchlist settings. They serve as configuration files for trading platforms like Thinkorswim and NinjaTrader. These may be compressed with ZIP structures.

Project & Data Files: In addition, certain WTP files are project files for applications like WinTask (for pipeline inspection data) and file containers for baseball league rosters in Out of the Park Baseball.

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file.
