All about XRL Files

The XRL file type is primarily associated with Geomagic Design X.

XRLFile Extension XRL
File extension: XRL
File type:  multi-use data file

What is an XRL file?

XRL files mostly belong to Geomagic Design X. XRL files are not one single file type but a label used for different kinds of data.
They appear in several forms:
  • 3D model files: These files store 3D scan data. They are used with Geomagic Design X and carry data from INUS Technology scanning processes. Visit the Geomagic Design X webpage for details.
  • XML-based files: In some cases the XRL file is structured as XML. This group covers two similar uses:
    - One type is an XML-based data file used by Xerox DocuShare (Xerox DocuShare).
    - The other functions as a Redaction Markup Language file, processed by OpenText Brava! Reader (OpenText).
  • Encrypted or compressed archive files: Some XRL files serve as secure or packed containers. Access requires proper keys or decryption/extraction software.
  • FilExt.com tip: Knowing the source is key. Use the appropriate viewer or editor: a 3D application such as Geomagic Design X for model files, a text/XML editor for XML files, or decryption tools for encrypted archives.

    How to open XRL files

You need a suitable software like Geomagic Design X to open an XRL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XRL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XRL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert XRL files:

    1. Geomagic Design X
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. XRL files are often referred to as Geomagic Design X 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
    2. OSCAR
A generic model capturing the essential structural and behavioral characteristics of network components in the light of fault management. The generic model is described by means of UML notations, and can be compiled to obtain rules for a Viterbi distributed diagnoser. This file format is classified as XML. This file format is classified as XML.
    4. Rapidform XOR/XOS (3D Scan Data & CAD File) by INUS Technology, Inc
Rapidform XOR, is a 3rd Generation reverse engineering software, for creating CAD models from 3D scan data. With Rapidform XOR, you can open data from any 3D scanner and create editable, parametric solid models of virtually any physical object. These models can be transferred from Rapidform XOR into other file formats used by the most popular CAD applications. This file format is classified as CAD/CAM. 5. XML Résumé Library
The XML Résumé Library is an XML and XSL based system for marking up, adding metadata to, and formatting résumés and curricula vitae. This file format is classified as XML.

    XRL file format details:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the XRL files is as follows:

XRL is not a common file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:

All the rest of the XRL files (18%) have different formats, often e.g. XML. If you want to find out what your XRL file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with XRL files

    • Associate the XRL file extension with the correct application.
    • Update your software that should actually open multi-use data files. Because only the current version supports the latest XRL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Geomagic Design X update.
    • To make sure that your XRL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
