What is an XVA file?

XVA files mostly belong to Citrix Hypervisor by Citrix. An XVA file is a virtual machine's image created and/or exported with XenCenter versions released before version 6.0 and used by Citrix Hypervisor (previously XenServer). This file is stored as an archive containing a descriptor and one or more virtual disk images for packaging a single virtual machine. The descriptor in an XVA file specifies the virtual machine's hardware while the disk image(s) contain(s) guest operating system(s) and user data.

How to open an XVA file

You need a suitable software like Citrix Hypervisor to open an XVA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XVA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XVA file directly in the browser:.
