All about ZIF Files
The ZIF file type is primarily associated with Zoomify.
What is a ZIF file
ZIF files serve different purposes. In one form, they are used as a Zoomify Zoomed Image File. In this case the file stores parts of a large image in small, tiled sections, so that the image can be zoomed and viewed efficiently. The tiles load individually, which minimizes the delay when exploring high‐resolution images. This function is handled by the Zoomify Image Viewer.
Another use of ZIF files is as a Zoom H4 Recorder File or Zoom H4/H2 audio project. These files contain settings and project data for audio recordings made with Zoom audio recorders. The files are managed by Zoom’s own recording software, referenced on the Zoom website.
A less common application is that ZIF files are sometimes used as compressed archives in ZIP format. In this role they are created by programs such as WinZip, and they bundle multiple files into one container. More details can be found at the WinZip website.
