All about OPD Files
The OPD file type is primarily associated with OmniPage.
What is an OPD file?
The most common association is usage as OmniPage Document. OmniPage is a program by Naunce that employs computer vision techniques such as OCR(Optical Character Recognition) to scanned documents, saving them in an editable format with the OPD file extension.
TextBridge Pro is a program similar to OmniPage. It stores the digitized documents with the OPD file extension.
RealSpectrum is an excellent high-fidelity emulator for Spectrum hardware, an 8-bit personal computer built by Sinclair Research. It supports OPD files for emulating hardware.
Wyko NT9100 is an optical interferometric profiling system that is a no-contact profiler that saves data using the OPD file extension.
FlipPublisher is a free program that allows users to create a realistic page-flipping effect for books and magazines. It saves the flipper documents with the OPD extension.
Durango Interferometry Software is a program by Diffraction International that analysis data measured by interferometers and saves it in Optical Path Differential stored with the OPD extension.
Other programs that can open OPD files include Bio-Rad Iq5. Other file formats associated with OPD include PTS, MET, ZCN, UD, OTN, ZON, IPP, OPJ, XJF, CRS3, KNNK, VCI, RVD, DCO, DDI, CIF, GI, PMI, SI, UDS, OE4, OE3, CSK.
How to open an OPD file
You need a suitable software like OmniPage to open an OPD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OPD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OPD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert OPD files:
- OmniPage by Kofax
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. OPD files are often referred to as OmniPage data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Durango (visualizations and supporting dataset file) by DiffractionDiffraction Durango is the universal interferometry software for data acquisition, analysis, evaluation, exchange, import-export, and simulation. This software uses only published algorithms and gives full access to raw measurement data and intermediate results. The OPD file stores Optical Path Difference visualizations and supporting dataset. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Getting Started, Support
OPD file format:
To find out what program is needed to open OPD files, you need to determine the file format. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below is our analysis of the OPD files:
The file type with the extension 'OPD' includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all OPD files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). Sections and streams in the file have names like Version, Document, DocumentSummaryInformation and SummaryInformation. The files are on average 4 MB in size and range from 220 KB to 29 MB. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. Files like these have the following tags: cert, and usually contain person-related data.
- 15% of all OPD files use the same file format, which have the signature 01 00 44 69 72 65 63 74 6F 72 79. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 1 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: Directory, Date, Image, Time, RAW_DATA, OffsetDac, MeasureStep, MemoryUsed and PageFi. The following filename is common: 1.opd. Such files sometimes refer to line.
The remaining 40% of all OPD files are files with no common format, often e.g. Durango Interferometry data, ZIP, SURD, OPD and opdfile. Files like these are sometimes linked to divskn, outer, data, joha, freezone or rinitm. If you want to find out which format your OPD file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .opd file to analyze".

an opd page layout file is a special file format by Kofax and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with OPD files
- Associate the OPD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open page layout files. Because only the current version supports the latest OPD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Kofax manufacturer website after an available OmniPage update.
- To make sure that your OPD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OPD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
