What is an ABS file?

ABS files mostly belong to Absolute Database by ComponentAce. An ABS file is a database created with Absolute Database engine for Delphi and C++ Builder integrated development Environments. This file is usually protected using 128bit AES encryption. Due to its small file size (achieved by table metadata compression and customizable page size), an ABS database file can be embedded in a Windows application (EXE) file. Another type of ABS file is an executable generated with GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) and saved in ELF or DWARF format. ABS is also the filename extension of some audio clips saved in MPEG format.

How to open an ABS file

You need a suitable software like Absolute Database to open an ABS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. The ABS file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

50% of all ABS files use the same file format, which have the signature 23 01 00 10 00 00 00 00. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 4 MB to 8 MB. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as NCRCbootloader. Such files are related to plus, amiko, dump, fantasia, optimo, piccollino, combo, picco and mini.
20% of all ABS files are Absolute Database files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. ABS files are between 78 KB and 13 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ABS0LUTEDATABASEL. Some examples of file names are DATA.ABS or francouzstina_nejen_pro_samouky.abs. Files like these have the following tags: francouzstina, samouky, nejen, measurement, config, tablas and promo.
