What is an APPLICATION file?

APPLICATION files mostly belong to .NET by Microsoft. APPLICATION is the file extension for a ClickOnce deployment manifest file. They enable easy, "one click" deployments of user-level Windows applications. ClickOnce is an application deployment technology that is a part of the .NET framework from Microsoft. It allows users to create self-updating Windows applications that can run with minimal user interaction after installation. A ClickOnce application reads the deployment manifest file periodically to check if updates are available. The APPLICATION file stores program deployment properties in an XML format. How to open APPLICATION files

You need a suitable software like .NET from Microsoft to open an APPLICATION file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
