What is an ASEC file?
ASEC files mostly belong to Android Studio by Open Handset Alliance. An ASEC file is a secure Android application created using Android SDK and Android Studio integrated development environment. This format was introduced in Android version 2.2 (codenamed Froyo). ASEC format is mainly used to distribute built-in or paid versions of Android applications. This is due to its ability to encrypt application data so that it can't be reverse-engineered by third-parties. An ASEC file is essentially an encrypted APK file. Such packages are saved in the .android_secure folder of an Android device.
How to open ASEC files
You need a suitable software like Android Studio from Open Handset Alliance to open an ASEC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened.
