Opening an ASH File
The ASH file type is primarily associated with Ashlar.
What is an ASH file
In one instance, an ASH file uses the JFIF format to hold a JPEG image with metadata. These are produced by Ashlar-Vellum Graphite and can be opened with image viewers or editors that support JPEG files.
In other cases, the ASH extension is applied to game asset files. For example, they may be used as Wii game asset files by WiiFlow or as Nintendo Switch data files. Some of these are also described as compressed archive files or even Adobe Photoshop Shape files, indicating that they may contain graphic or vector data.
Another variation is seen where ASH files function as AOLserver HTML templates or come as precompiled ActionScript bytecode associated with Ashampoo Burning Studio. These files may be opened with text editors or specialized development tools if they contain code.
- Image files: Store JPEG data with metadata.
- Game assets: May need game extraction or modding tools.
- Templates/Code: Open in text editors or coding environments.

How to open ASH files
You need a suitable software like Ashlar to open an ASH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ASH file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ASH file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ASH file format details:
To find out what program is needed to open ASH files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the ASH files looks like this:
The ASH file extension is rarely used and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all ASH files save the data in JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 200 KB. It is a modern file type. The following keywords are characteristic: !22222222222, $.' ",#, '9=82<.342 and JFIF. Such files are related to szines and szal.
- 10% of all ASH files start with the bytes LZ77 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 100 KB in size and range from 21 KB to 180 KB. The following filename is common: board.ash or cursor.ash.
The remaining 65% of all ASH files are files with no common format, the following 4 formats exist: ASH. Often described as bann, disk, sonydscf, dscw, health, discord, enter, tonew, dsch or line. If you want to find out what your ASH file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
