What is an AUS file?

AUS files mostly belong to Audacity. Overview: An AUS file can represent several distinct file types. Its purpose and functionality depend on the system that created it.
For audio-related tasks, some AUS files are used as settings or session files. This includes the following cases:

Audio Settings / Session File: Used by audio applications, these files save configuration and session data. They may be related to Audacity sessions or similar setups, where the file holds important parameters for an audio project.

Korg Audio Style File: With a MIDI internal format, these files store audio style data for the Korg Pa4X arranger keyboard. They include uncompressed audio data and configuration details for instrument performance. More details can be found on the Korg website.

Bank Statement Export: In some cases, AUS files export Hungarian bank statements. Here the file contains structured financial data for later processing.

Opening and Viewing: To work with an AUS file, use the software aligned with its origin. For audio sessions try Audacity or FMJ-Software Awave Studio; for keyboard style files, use the designated Korg hardware/software; and for bank exports, a text editor or financial tool may be required.

How do you open AUS files?

You need a suitable software like Audacity to open an AUS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the AUS files:

The AUS file extension is not found very often and includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 45% of all AUS files are using the well-known MIDI file format to store the data. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 2 MB to 16 MB in size, with a median of 6 MB. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: MThd, MTrk, SFF2 and SInt. These files can be linked to dholak, dolak, devanaedmm, sampanuda, eliyavin, sugunala, westrn and tabla.
• 10% of all AUS files start with the magic bytes IUS, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. AUS files are between 420 bytes and 500 bytes in size. Files like these have the following tags: audio.
