What is an AVD file?

AVD files mostly belong to Android Studio by Google. Files with AVD extension are commonly associated with video information files created with Movie Edit Pro, a professional movie editing software. An AVD file is automatically generated when a video (movie) file is imported into Movie Edit Pro and it contains references to and information about the video. Such information may include scene detection for video segments. Some digital video recorders, dashcams, and surveillance cameras also use AVD files to store recorded video footage. AVD videos are stored using a modified MPEG-4 container format. Android Studio, an integrated development environment for creating android software saves all configuration and modifiable data for an Android Virtual Device in an AVD file. Application Manager, a program for organizing and updating Avid programs on a PC, uses AVD files to store information for updating the license enforcement utilities of the USB dongle used to activate or renew an Avid program's license.

How do you open AVD files?

You need a suitable software like Android Studio to open an AVD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. 2% of all AVD files are using the well-known RAR file format to store the data. RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 67 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Rar!.
