The AVD file type is primarily associated with Android Studio.
What is an AVD file?
How do you open AVD files?
You need a suitable software like Android Studio to open an AVD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your AVD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a AVD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

AVD file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the AVD files comes to the following conclusion:
The AVD file type covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all AVD files belong to MAGIX Movie Edit Pro project. The files are using the common file format RIFF. RIFF files store data in tagged chunks. There are primarily used to store multimedia such as sound and video. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 1 KB and 4 KB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. The following keywords are characteristic: SEKDmcso, RIFF and LIST. Such AVD files store data about movie, video, aufnahme, dscn and film.
- 2% of all AVD files are using the well-known RAR file format to store the data. RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 67 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Rar!.
All other AVD files (48%) have no consistent format. Just click the "Choose your .avd file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your AVD file is.
