All about CBX Files
The CBX file type is primarily associated with CostXpert.
What is a CBX file?
For the primary use case, many CBX files store construction cost management data; they act as containers that package cost estimates and related details. You can often open these with archive managers since they are built on the ZIP format.
Other notable uses include:
How to open a CBX file
You need a suitable software like CostXpert to open a CBX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CBX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CBX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CBX format details:
To view or edit CBX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the CBX files looks like this:
The CBX file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 40% of all CBX files are based on the zip format, so several files are compressed and saved in one CBX file. The included 3 to 24 files have file names such as Metadata.xml, TakeoffJob.xml, \MileStones\ and \RootShapeContainers\. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are often between 43 KB and 24 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Metadata.xml and RootShapeContainers/. Such CBX files store data about addendum, builders, finishes, street, tender, floor, bill, cost, plan, road and work, and usually contain person-related data.
- 15% of all CBX files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are often between 5 KB and 15 KB in size. The keywords </Position>, <CustomBattle>, <Duration>0.0</Duration>, <Position>, <Season>0</Season>, <Version>7</Version>, <DayTime>8.0</DayTime>, <X>198</X> and <Y>145</Y> are typical for these files. These files can be linked to unitid.
The remaining 45% of all CBX files are files with no common format, often, for example, MOV. Often described as bietertool, cxtryy or yhsyyyd. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CBX file!

How to solve problems with CBX files
- Associate the CBX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open container files. Because only the current version supports the latest CBX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available CostXpert update.
- To make sure that your CBX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CBX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
