What is a CIL file?

CIL files mostly belong to ArtCut. CIL files come in two main forms.
One form is used as a clip art image. In this case, the file stores graphic artwork created with specialized tools such as ArtCut by SPLIT CIL. The format is proprietary and is meant for handling simple images and illustrations.

If your file is a clip art image, use a compatible image editor that can interpret its proprietary format.

If it is a recording file, open it with sound analysis software that reads noise measurement data.

How to open CIL files

You need a suitable software like ArtCut to open a CIL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CIL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CIL file directly in the browser:. • 7% of all CIL files start with the bytes 00 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view the contents and find segments of text. The files are on average 6 MB in size and range from 4 KB to 13 MB. The files contain the following words: NSRT.
