Opening a CIN File
The CIN file type is primarily associated with Core Keeper.
What is a CIN file?
In many cases the file acts as a game save file for titles such as Core Keeper. In this context, the file stores important game progress and settings.
Other CIN files contain image data based on the Cineon process. Such files are often used in film and video work and can be opened with software like DaVinci Resolve.
There are also CIN files that carry animation data from programs similar to Cinema 4D, as well as video formats seen in titles like Rayman 2, where the files may work with video playback engines such as Bink Video.
Moreover, some CIN files are produced by medical devices such as Mindray Ultrasound Image systems, and others serve as engineering scripts like Vector CANoe CAPL include files. In one variant, the file is compressed using GZIP.
If you have a CIN file and need to open it, consider these points:
- Determine the file's origin or source—whether it is from a game, imaging system, or another application.
- Open the file with the proper software: for a game file, run it in the appropriate game; for an image or animation file, use software like DaVinci Resolve or Cinema 4D.
- Check for file header information that may indicate its true format.
- Visit related websites (for example, Mindray or Cinelerra-GG) to find specific instructions.
How can I open a CIN file?
You need a suitable software like Core Keeper to open a CIN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CIN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CIN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CIN file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the CIN files:
CIN is not a commonly used file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in CIN files:
- 30% of all CIN files have the same signature cndr. They consist of unreadable binary data. The average file size is 2 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 22 KB in size. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. The following keywords are characteristic: cndr, INFO and ZONE<. A common filename is Data.cin or Forager.main.cin.
- 10% of all CIN files belong to Kodak Cineon bitmap. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 9 MB in size and range from 3 MB to 12 MB. Files like these have the following tags: reel.
The remaining 60% of all CIN files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. Id Software Quake II Cinematic video, Calculux Indoor project and SMK. Files like these are sometimes linked to card or usimage. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CIN file!

a cin multimedia data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CIN files
- Associate the CIN file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open multimedia data files. Because only the current version supports the latest CIN file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Core Keeper update.
- To make sure that your CIN file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CIN file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
