What is a CPR file?

CPR files mostly belong to Cubase by Steinberg. CPR is the filename extension of music projects created with Cubase music production software. The CPR file contains project data such as musical instruments (MIDI), mixer configuration, audio effects, and references to audio assets used in the project. CPR is also the filename extension of the file containing preferences (settings) used by Captivate e-learning content creation software. The contents of this CPR file is written in XML format. The file defines settings such as video quality. Some Windows mobile phones save display settings in an XML-based CPR file. P-WAVE data analysis software and programming language, saves its compiled procedures in a CPR file. ConTEXT, a lightweight text editor for Windows desktop saves text projects in a CPR file.

How to open a CPR file

You need a suitable software like Cubase to open a CPR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CPR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CPR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CPR file format details:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the CPR files is as follows:

The CPR file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

All other CPR files (40%) have no consistent format, the following 3 formats exist: ASCARON. These files sometimes refer to project, arcs, data, settings, quality, arcd, arch or site. If you want to find out which format your CPR file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .cpr file to analyze".
