Opening an EMO File
The EMO file type is primarily associated with EMO Viewer.
What is an EMO file?
EMO files are not a single type but several specialized files that serve different purposes.
Some EMO files contain 3D model animation data used by EmotionCreator and typically viewed with software like the EMO Viewer.
Other files follow the Microsoft Emotion Object File format. These store object data related to emotion processing and work with systems linked to EOPHSharp. More details are available at this page.
Additionally, a set of EMO files holds bathymetry data used in underwater survey work. These files, associated with QINSy, contain bathymetric survey data; you can find more at QINSy details.
If you have a EMO file, determine its source to choose the correct application for viewing or editing. Each use case demands the matching specialized software.
- 3D Animation from EmotionCreator
- Microsoft Object File for emotion data
- Bathymetric Survey File from QINSy
How do you open EMO files?
You need a suitable software like EMO Viewer to open an EMO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EMO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EMO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EMO files:
- EMO Viewer
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EMO files are often referred to as EMO Viewer 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Messenger (Emoticon (Smiley)) by Microsoft CorporationA number of different programs produce emoticons for MSN Messenger and other programs. Typically these will be 19x19 pixel pictures but can be other sizes. This file format is classified as Graphic.
EMO file format:
To view or edit EMO files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the EMO files comes to the following conclusion:
EMO is seldom used as a file extension and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all EMO files have the same signature #EMOþÿ . These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 22 KB to 1 MB in size. The keywords #EMO and #EMG are typical for these files.
- 10% of all EMO files start with the bytes em crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 75 KB to 1 MB in size, with a median of 600 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. embd and EOPHSharp. These files can be linked to connector and drive.
All other EMO files (75%) have different formats, often e.g. EntityMotionData. They are often associated with korinthiakos, gebco, area, gulf, santorini or kennfeld. If you want to find out which format your EMO file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .emo file to analyze".
Technical Data for EMO File Extension
an emo specialized animation file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with EMO files
- Associate the EMO file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open specialized animation files. Because only the current version supports the latest EMO file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available EMO Viewer update.
- To make sure that your EMO file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EMO file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
