Opening an EP File
The EP file type is primarily associated with Pencil Project.
What is an EP file?
Your EP file may belong to one of two distinct areas. In most cases it is a project file created by Pencil Project, an application that uses an XML structure to store diagram and prototype data. This XML-based file holds design elements like shapes and layout information for user interface mockups.
In a smaller number of cases, an EP file is used as a game editor package file. This version packages game assets and data for use in game development tools such as those associated with CryEngine.
FilExt.com tip: For more detailed information on the diagram file version, visit the Pencil Project website. For the game package variant, further details are available at the CryEngine website.
How to open EP files
You need a suitable software like Pencil Project to open an EP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EP files:
- Pencil Project
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EP files are often referred to as Pencil Project data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

EP file format:
To find out what program is needed to open EP files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the EP files produces the following result:
The EP file extension is used very often and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in EP files are:
- 10% of all EP files are Pencil sketch files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The file size is in the range of 21 KB to 1 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0"?>, <Document xmlns="http://www.evolus.vn/Namespace/Pencil"><Properties/><Pages><Page><Properties><Property and Property name.
- 3% of all EP files start with the magic bytes SIGSTRM12GIS, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. EP files can be up to 5 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 4 KB. The files contain the following words: SIGSTRM12GIS and Signkey.EditorSignature. These files are often associated with weapon, and include person-related information.
All other EP files (87%) have no uniform format, often, for example, EasyPlot save. Sometimes used for image, rendering, sample, plain, body or zjbz. If you want to find out what your EP file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for EP File Extension

an ep project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with EP files
- Associate the EP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest EP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Pencil Project update.
- To make sure that your EP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
