Opening an ESA File
The ESA file type is primarily associated with Scia Engineer.
What is an ESA file?
ESA File Overview:
The ESA extension is used by several applications and does not refer to a single file format. Its structure and content depend on the origin. Below are some specialized uses:
- Scia Engineer Files - These are used in engineering design projects. They store project data for analysis and design in civil or structural applications. For more details, visit Scia Engineer website.
- Embroidery Stitch Files - These files employ the Microsoft Compound File format to hold embroidery design and stitch instructions. They are created by applications like Embird and EmbroideryStudio. See more at Embird.
- SAP Enterprise Service Archives - Packaged as a ZIP archive, these files contain settings and assembly data for SAP Cloud Platform Integration. They serve as a container for enterprise service configuration. Additional information is available at SAP Integration Suite.
- Assay Result Files - Using an XML structure, these files record data from ELISA experiments. They are used in SoftMax Pro for assay analysis.
- eCabinets Project Files - These files store project details for cabinet designs in eCabinets software.
Opening an ESA file requires the specific software that created it. In some cases, if the file uses XML or ZIP structures, a text or archive editor may reveal its contents; however, understanding the data fully generally needs the corresponding application.
FilExt.com tip: Check the file header with a hex or XML editor if the internal format is unclear.
How to open an ESA file
You need a suitable software like Scia Engineer to open an ESA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ESA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ESA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ESA files:
- Scia Engineer
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ESA files are often referred to as Scia Engineer cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Enveloc Secure Archive by Enveloc, Inc.The ESA is an Enveloc Secure Archive used to represent backup sets created by Enveloc's Remote Backup software. The GigaPress utility can be used to create archives with secure, 3DES encryption. A ZIP file format with data encrypted using 3DES algorithm. This file format is classified as Archive.
- ExeemSkin (Archive) by Swarm Systems Inc.eXeemSkin is still in alpha, but will be released in April 2005 at last notice. eXeem is a decentralized network based on the BitTorrent protocol. This file will be a skin file for the client. The Mime types used with this association are: eXeemSkin/SkinArchive. This file format is classified as Archive.
- ExpertScan (Survey Report) by AutoData SystemsAutoData ExpertScan allows the user to design paper surveys, scan the filled-out forms, and create reports on the data.
ESA file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the ESA files:
The ESA file extension covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in ESA files are:
- 40% of all ESA files use the same file format, which have the signature SEN. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are 2 MB to 85 MB in size, with a median of 15 MB. It is a modern file type. These files can be linked to model, structure, structural and scia.
- 35% of all ESA files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also called Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". The file contains several sections which are named like 0041, 0042, 0043, HEADER and AUX_INFO. Most of these files are 15 KB to 340 KB in size. Such ESA files store data about block, christmas, cookie and script, and often include person-related information.
All other ESA files (25%) have no consistent format, the following 5 formats can be found: ZIP, XML and BLOCKFILEOHYES. They are often associated with cutting, circle, monogram, victorian, advantco or splunk. If you want to find out which format your ESA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .esa file to analyze".
Technical Data for ESA File Extension
an esa project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ESA files
- Associate the ESA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest ESA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Scia Engineer update.
- To make sure that your ESA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ESA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
