Opening an FCA File
The FCA file type is primarily associated with FlukeView Forms.
What is an FCA file?
In another case, an FCA file is a compressed archive that uses the ZIP format. This type is used to bundle game data and is sometimes associated with automotive systems issued by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
There is also a variant where the FCA file functions as an encrypted PDF or as a container for compressed PDF files. These files serve to protect documents while grouping them into one archive.
- Fluke Analysis Data: Electrical-measurement data stored in a compound file.
- Compressed Game Data: ZIP-based archives that bundle game files.
- Encrypted PDF Archive: Secure or grouped PDF documents.
How to open an FCA file
You need a suitable software like FlukeView Forms to open an FCA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FCA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FCA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

FCA file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the FCA files comes to the following conclusion:
The FCA file type mainly uses a defined FCA format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 70% of all FCA files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The file contains several sections with names like project.xml and session#1.fel. The files are 330 KB to 74 MB in size, with a median of 7 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Files like these have the following tags: panel, power, rectifier and sample.
- 25% of all FCA files are based on the zip format, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one FCA file. A typical number of included files is 3. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. FCA files can be up to 5 MB in size, but are often around 25 KB - 1 MB. The file name 00R_K4.fca or 0A3_K7.fca is typical for these files.
All other FCA files (5%) have no uniform format. If you want to find out what your FCA file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with FCA files
- Associate the FCA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data archives. Because only the current version supports the latest FCA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available FlukeView Forms update.
- To make sure that your FCA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FCA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
