What is a FEATURE file

FEATURE files mostly belong to PyCharm by Jet Brains. FEATURE is the filename extension of a feature's test case used by testing frameworks such as Cucumber, Specflow, and Behave. Code editors such as IntelliJ and PyCharm can create and edit this file. A FEATURE file describes what a feature does in an application. The contents of this file are stored as text. A FEATURE test case for Cucumber framework is written in Gherkin language. FEATURE is also the filename extension of a custom component (feature) in SharePoint document management, reporting, and storage web platform. A SharePoint FEATURE can be edited using Visual Studio integrated development environment.

How to open a FEATURE file

You need a suitable software like PyCharm to open a FEATURE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FEATURE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. FEATURE file extension format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The FEATURE file extension is rarely used and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 30% of all FEATURE files belong to Gherkin Feature. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are 220 bytes to 4 KB in size, with a median of 1 KB. The file type was created recently. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Feature, Given and Scenario. Files like these are about demo.
• 10% of all FEATURE files store the data in the UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes  (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). FEATURE files are between 990 bytes and 10 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. #language: ru, @tree and Feature. These files can be linked to sozdanie and export.
