All about FIS Files
The FIS file type is primarily associated with MATLAB.
What is a FIS file
Other uses include:
How to open FIS files
You need a suitable software like MATLAB to open a FIS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FIS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FIS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to extract texts from FIS files or capture a screenshot to PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...
If you want to extract texts from FIS file or capture a screenshot, you can use our free Online FIS File Viewer:- To do this, click the button "Choose your .fis file to view" on this page.
- Your FIS file will then be displayed in the browser.
- Now click on "Save as..." at the top of the page.
- Then choose the file format (e.g. JPG, PDF, DOCX, TXT, ...) you want.
- Download the converted file.
Programs that open and convert FIS files:
- MATLAB
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FIS files are often referred to as MATLAB data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Dynamite VSP (Feature Interpretation Style) by 3am Solutions (UK) LimitedDynamite VSP is a 3D visualisation tool designed specifically for civil engineers and transport infrastructure planners. It is compatible with both 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ. This file format is classified as Text.
FIS file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the FIS files:
The FIS file extension mainly uses a special format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 75% of all FIS files are using the well-known config file format to store the data. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. FIS files can be up to 18 KB in size, but are often around 580 bytes - 2 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. The files contain the following words: Name, NumRules, Version=2.0, [System], [Input1], OrMethod='max', Type='mamdani', AndMethod='min', AggMethod='max', ImpMethod='min', DefuzzMethod='centroid', NumOutputs=1 and NumInputs=2. Such FIS files store data about fuzzy, speed, motor, control, controller, mamdani, washing, cloths, matlab, sugeno, covid, input and logic.
- 7% of all FIS files start with the magic bytes LCMS_SURVEY_DATA, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 3 MB to 7 MB in size. The keywords LCMS_SURVEY_DATA are typical for these files. Such FIS files store data about lcms and data.
All the rest of the FIS files (18%) have different formats, often e.g. FxpansionInstallSystem. Often described as installer or install. Just click the "Choose your .fis file to view" button on this page to find out what your FIS file is.
Technical Data for FIS File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a fis data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with FIS files
- Associate the FIS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest FIS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available MATLAB update.
- To make sure that your FIS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FIS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
