What is a GCH file?

GCH files mostly belong to GNU Compiler Collection by Free Software Foundation. A GCH file is a precompiled C or C++ header generated from a H (header) file using GNU Compiler Collection (GCC). A precompiled header contains compiled code which is imported into multiple source code files (e.g. CPP) in a project. A CPP file is essentially the binary version of a H file. It contains reusable variable, class, methods, and interface declarations. A precompiled header is only compatible with the compiler version used to create them.

How to open GCH files

You need a suitable software like GNU Compiler Collection to open a GCH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. GCH file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the GCH files:

The GCH file extension is used very often and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in GCH files:

• 50% of all GCH files have the same signature ¯i6². These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. GCH files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 460 KB - 1 MB. The file type is very recent. Some examples of file names are WoT_report.gch or WoWS_report.gch. Such files are related to report, wows, login, worldoftanks, tanki, post, wargaming and wowp.
• 40% of all GCH files have the same signature gpc. They consist of unreadable binary data. GCH files can be up to 120 MB in size, but are often around 1 MB - 21 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. x86-64 and gpch+014. Files like these have the following tags: data, list, function and config.

All other GCH files (10%) have no consistent format, often, for example, CPCH. These files are often connected to prefix, wotb, worldofwarships, wotna or card.
