Opening a GCH File
The GCH file type is primarily associated with GNU Compiler Collection.
What is a GCH file?
How to open GCH files
You need a suitable software like GNU Compiler Collection to open a GCH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GCH file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GCH file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GCH files:
- GNU Compiler Collection by Free Software Foundation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GCH files are often referred to as GNU Compiler Collection developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Visual Studio (precompiled header) by MicrosoftVisual Studio is an integrated development environment for building desktop, mobile, and web applications. When configured to compile C and C++ code with GCC, Visual Studio saves a precompiled header in a GCH file. This file format is classified as Developer.
GCH file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the GCH files:
The GCH file extension is used very often and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in GCH files:
- 50% of all GCH files have the same signature ¯i6². These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. GCH files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 460 KB - 1 MB. The file type is very recent. Some examples of file names are WoT_report.gch or WoWS_report.gch. Such files are related to report, wows, login, worldoftanks, tanki, post, wargaming and wowp.
- 40% of all GCH files have the same signature gpc. They consist of unreadable binary data. GCH files can be up to 120 MB in size, but are often around 1 MB - 21 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. x86-64 and gpch+014. Files like these have the following tags: data, list, function and config.
All other GCH files (10%) have no consistent format, often, for example, CPCH. These files are often connected to prefix, wotb, worldofwarships, wotna or card. You can get all the details of your GCH file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .gch file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for GCH File Extension
a gch precompiled header is a special file format by Free Software Foundation and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GCH files
- Associate the GCH file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open precompiled headers. Because only the current version supports the latest GCH file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Free Software Foundation manufacturer website after an available GNU Compiler Collection update.
- To make sure that your GCH file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GCH file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
