Opening a GTD File
The GTD file type is primarily associated with GerbTool GT-Designer.
What is a GTD file
Many GTD files are Gerber Tool Designer files that hold data for printed circuit board (PCB) layouts. They include detailed design instructions such as trace paths, layer information, and drill data.
Other uses include:
How can I open a GTD file?
You need a suitable software like GerbTool GT-Designer to open a GTD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GTD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GTD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GTD files:
- GerbTool GT-Designer
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GTD files are often referred to as GerbTool GT-Designer cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- GT Designer 2 (Project) by Mitsubishi Electric CorporationThe GT Works software package includes everything you need for programming the control units of the GOT9000 and GOT1000 series. The integrated GT Designer module gives you full control of all functions, making it amazingly easy to produce powerful applications, particularly with the help of the big library of ready-to-use objects.
GTD file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the GTD files is as follows:
An GTD file includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all GTD files start with the bytes $Header , which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The average file size is 2 MB with most files being between 150 KB and 11 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. $End, $Environment, $Header, $Program, Created, OverlayMode, SketchMode, Version, ShowErrors, ViewComposites, GerbTool GT-Designer, OrthoSnap and Service Release. Files like these are about gerber, steval, single, gerb, tool, compare and panel.
- 20% of all GTD files have the same signature YREC Measure Data Version 1.01.0. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. GTD files are between 6 KB and 2 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Equip Tag, Equip TagNo, File Header, Language Code, Measure Data, Model, None, Sampling Interval, Serial No, Time Correction, Trigger Point, UTF-8, YREC and Version 1.01.03.
The remaining 45% of all GTD files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. ZIP, Program and Environment. Often described as freezone, sfbay or jbcc. Just click the "Choose your .gtd file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your GTD file is.

a gtd PCB design file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GTD files
- Associate the GTD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open pcb design files. Because only the current version supports the latest GTD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available GerbTool GT-Designer update.
- To make sure that your GTD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GTD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
