What is a GZP file?

GZP files mostly belong to Sentaurus TCAD. GZP files are compressed archives that often contain project data, particularly from TCAD simulations.
These files mainly serve as zipped project files from Sentaurus TCAD by Synopsys. They may use the GZIP compression algorithm internally, which is why many GZP files are treated as compressed project archives.

TCAD Archives: They hold simulation project data used by TCAD tools.

Generic Compressed Archives: Some GZP files simply store data using the GZIP standard.

Game Archives: In a few cases, they can be used to compress game data.

How to open a GZP file

You need a suitable software like Sentaurus TCAD to open a GZP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GZP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GZP file directly in the browser:. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. The GZP file extension is rather rarely used and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in GZP files are:

• 40% of all GZP files use the same file format, which have the signature Salted__. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 20 KB to 70 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Salted__. Files like these are sometimes connected to finfet, mosfet, sige, sdevicesbte, ensemblemc, stacknsfet, layerram and demo.
• 30% of all GZP files internally utilize the GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 11 KB to 2 MB in size. A usual file name is 20180601_LWIR_Pixel_DIV_2D.gzp or 22nm_FinFET_Radiation.gzp. Files like these are about spad, radiation, junction, pixel and lwir.
