How to open an HPM file
You need a suitable software like Lattice Diamond to open an HPM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. HPM is not a commonly used file extension and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 20% of all HPM files are based on the zip format, that is, an HPM file includes multiple compressed files. Such a ZIP file contains 6 to 90 files. File names inside are TechInfo.xml. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The file size is in the range of 10 KB to 280 KB. - 15% of all HPM files have the same signature PICMGFWU. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 23 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PICMGFWU and BIOS. Examples of file names are biosimage.hpm or image.hpm. Such files are related to bios, standard and signed.
