Opening an LFT File
The LFT file type is primarily associated with Lasercut 5.3.
What is an LFT file?
For example, some LFT files are created by laser cutting systems like Lasercut 5.3. These files contain vector instructions used to guide laser cutting machines. You can find more details on their use at Golden Laser.
Other LFT files are used in the CAD world.
How can I open an LFT file?
You need a suitable software like Lasercut 5.3 to open an LFT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LFT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LFT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert LFT files:
- Lasercut 5.3
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. LFT files are often referred to as Lasercut 5.3 cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- 3D Studio (Loft File) by Autodesk, Inc.
- ChiWriterChiWriter is a scientific multifont word processor. It was developed and, until 1995, commercially distributed by Horstmann Software Development Corporation, USA. It was designed to work in an MS-DOS environment, though it can also be launched from an icon under Windows 3.xx or Windows 95. It creates its own graphic screen, and some of the resolutions offer mouse support. However, the lack of true Windows support probably led to the downfall of ChiWriter. Since 1995 Horstmann is out of business, and all support for ChiWriter has stopped.
LFT file format details:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the LFT files comes to the following conclusion:
As a file extension, LFT isn't very common and includes many different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 20% of all LFT files have the same signature ieSE. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 86 KB with most files being between 16 KB and 870 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ieSE. These files can be linked to logo, and frequently comprise personal data.
- 10% of all LFT files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "FF FF 03 00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 4 KB with most files being between 100 bytes and 85 KB in size. The files contain the following words: CFilterAllNode, CFilterXrefNode and CFilterFilterNode. Files like these are sometimes connected to layers and filter.
The remaining 70% of all LFT files are files with no common format, the following 8 formats exist: 3D Studio Loft Object, JetDB, Essae and LFT. Files like these are sometimes linked to update, countess, lifetime, backup, endzone, label or ddxl. If you want to find out what your LFT file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for LFT File Extension
an lft specialized design file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with LFT files
- Associate the LFT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open specialized design files. Because only the current version supports the latest LFT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Lasercut 5.3 update.
- To make sure that your LFT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
